« Back Mobile Eye Clinics Soon 18 Jan, 2010 Mumbai: Starting January 24, mobile eye clinics will go to the doorsteps of houses in north Mumbai. A joint initiative by Wockhardt Foundation and the Sanjay Nirupam Helpline, the vans will move around, particularly in slum areas, and examine roughly 1,000 people a week. Over 52 weeks, the vans will cater to thousands who cannot afford eye care, said Wockhardt Foundation CEO Huzaifa Khorakiwala.
Sanjay Nirupam of the Congress said, “The initiative is designed for those who can’t afford a private hospital and don’t want to go to an illequipped public hospital.’’
Korakiwala said the vans would refer patients to nearby hospitals for free surgery.
